1. pale in comparison with — 相形见绌
原文： Online chat rooms and video conferencing may pale in comparison with the ceremonious service luxury houses are known for.
中文： 聊天室和视频会议与奢侈品牌标志性的仪式感服务相比，可能显得黯然失色。
为什么好： 学生写对比最爱用 compare with 或 A is not as good as B，但 pale in comparison with 自带一种”颜色变淡”的画面感——像一张褪色的照片。它精准表达”相比之下差得远”，比 cannot compare with 更地道，比 A is inferior to B 更自然。

为什么好： 学生写数据图表作文时常写 is 或 make up（make up 30% 不算错，但偏口语化）。account for 是图表描述题的标准高分词——雅思小作文、高考图表作文直接给分。

为什么好： 学生写”保持”只用 keep 或 maintain。keep...in place 是一种非常地道、有”度”的表达——不是简单地”保持”，而是”原封不动地保留一套体系”。在雅思大作文讨论政府政策、社会制度时特别好用。
