最近读了一篇《金融时报》的好文章 — Resetting a career is daunting and the first lesson is not to rush。
Pilots don’t use restarts like that very often, but when there’s absolutely no alternative, the methods they use to make it work are instructive for the rest of us.
Their first lesson is not to rush, but take the time to properly disengage.
Next is to understand limbo. Waiting out limbo periods is hard.
The third lesson is about acceleration. … That acceleration produces tremendous stress. … Keeping the metal parts well oiled helps, for then you only have to fight inertia, not friction.
原文出处: “take the time to properly disengage”(花时间适当地脱离)
|---|---|
| Sometimes we need to stop and think. | Sometimes we need to disengage from our daily routine and reflect. |
| He left the group because of disagreements. | He chose to disengage from the group due to irreconcilable differences. |
| It’s hard to quit social media. | It’s hard to disengage from the digital world. |
Before making a major career change, it is wise to temporarily disengage from your current environment to gain perspective.
Waiting out limbo periods is hard.”(了解即将到来的不确定状态。
|---|---|
| I was in an uncertain situation. | I was in limbo, waiting for the results. |
| The project was delayed and nobody knew what to do. | The project was in limbo, with no clear direction from management. |
| After graduation, I felt confused about the future. | After graduation, I found myself in limbo, caught between student life and the working world. |
For many recent graduates, the months after university are a period of limbo — no longer students, but not yet established professionals.
表达三:entanglements
原文出处: “clearing away enough entanglements so that changes which have wide appeal can work”(清除足够多的故障,以便具有广泛吸引力的变革能够成功)
entanglement 来自动词 entangle(使纠缠)。
|---|---|
| We need to solve these problems first. | We need to clear away these entanglements before proceeding. |
| The situation was very complex. | The situation was full of legal and financial entanglements. |
| I had too many things to deal with. | I was trapped in a web of emotional entanglements. |
To move forward in life, we must learn to cut through the entanglements — both mental and practical — that hold us back.
表达四:dizzying
原文出处: “toughen yourself for dizzying acceleration when you restart”(让自己坚强起来,能够抵御重启所带来的令人眩晕的加速度)
|---|---|
| Technology is developing very fast. | Technology is advancing at a dizzying pace. |
| The city has changed rapidly. | The city has undergone dizzying changes in the past decade. |
| Prices are rising quickly. | The dizzying rise in housing prices has left many young people struggling. |
Living in Shanghai, I witnessed the dizzying transformation of my neighbourhood — old lanes replaced by skyscrapers seemingly overnight.
